‘-and Lo ! the bird is on the Wing’ is an installation involving the creation of an environment densely filled with helium balloons and cut flowers. It is inspired by The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (from which the title of the work is taken), this text spends much time mediating upon the nature of material and spiritual virtues. The works aesthetics are partially based on the text as it continually refers to flowers flying in the breeze.
“During our lifetime we hang in balance between ideas of faith or philosophy and of those which we can see and feel. A more spiritual approach to life can be seen as wasteful and indulgent as well as noble and pure. The temporal nature of the work hopes to reflect both the passage and limitation of time as well as the way in which we are altered by nature throughout out lives.” Christian Braime
“Come, fill the cup, and in the Fire of Spring
The Winter Garment of Repentance fling :
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To fly–and Lo ! the Bird is on the Wing.”
-and lo ! the brid is on the wing, Aaron Jones, Christian Braime
